The 'Mississippi Musk' Who Wants to Erase Black Power: How Shad White Uses State Authority to Target Minorities

Mississippi State Auditor Shad White, a Harvard Law grad and Federalist Society president, has systematically targeted immigrants, LGBTQ+ communities, and Black political representation through ICE partnerships, MOGE audits, and redistricting pushes. He's building a gubernatorial campaign on white supremacy dressed up as fiscal oversight.

JACKSON — Shad White doesn't use racial slurs in public. He doesn't need to. He has the power of the state.

As Mississippi's State Auditor, the 40-year-old Harvard Law graduate has built a political machine that systematically targets immigrants, LGBTQ+ communities, and Black political representation — all while positioning himself for a run at the governor's mansion. He calls himself "Mississippi's Musk." What he's actually doing is using state authority to enforce white supremacy through bureaucracy.

The pattern is undeniable. The target is always the same. And the man who claims to fight "waste, fraud, and abuse" is actually weaponizing government against anyone who isn't white, straight, and conservative.

ICE Partnership: From Auditor to Deporter

In February 2026, White announced that his Office of the State Auditor had entered into a 287(g) agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. His agents were now trained and approved by ICE to execute immigration enforcement functions within Mississippi.

"Sworn officers of the Office of the State Auditor are honored to serve as state-level partners for ICE, should they need us," White wrote on Facebook in November 2025, praising "Swamp Sweep" — a massive immigration crackdown that aimed to arrest roughly 5,000 people across southeast Louisiana and into southeast Mississippi.

The deployment of 250 federal border agents, staged at a naval base near New Orleans with thousands of pounds of tear gas and pepper balls, marked "the latest escalation in a series of rapid-fire immigration crackdowns unfolding nationwide." White wasn't just watching. He was participating.

His office had been laying the groundwork since September 2025, when White announced that "his office had entered into a 287(g) agreement, training two agents to assist ICE when needed." He also pushed legislation making immigration a state crime — a bill that passed in 2026.

"Last year our team found illegal immigration costs Mississippi taxpayers around $100 million per year in public education, healthcare, and criminal justice expenses," White claimed, though he offered no methodology or verification for the figure.

But the cost wasn't really the point. The point was casting immigrants as an invading force stealing from taxpayers. The point was fear. The point was using the auditor's office — ostensibly tasked with financial oversight — to enforce a nativist agenda.

MOGE: The "Mississippi Musk" Goes After LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS Programs

In April 2025, White rebranded his office as "MOGE" — the Mississippi Office of Government Efficiency, a direct copy of Elon Musk's DOGE. He told Fox News, "I'm happy to be Mississippi's Musk."

What did Mississippi's Musk do with his new brand? He went after HIV/AIDS grants.

An audit by White's office found that funds meant for HIV/AIDS testing and treatment had been spent on a "Queer-ceanara" — a "Latinx pride month event" based on the Quinceañera tradition. He also criticized cab rides in New York City that he claimed "looked like bar-hopping."

"We've been following the model that President Trump and DOGE set in digging into taxpayer funds here in Mississippi," White told Fox News. "We're particularly looking now at grants that are being passed from state agencies over to nonprofits, and our latest findings are really just a slap in the face to taxpayers, unfortunately."

The framing was deliberate. HIV/AIDS funding wasn't being wasted on ineffective programs — it was being spent on "Queer" and "Latinx" events. The people dying of HIV/AIDS weren't the victims. Taxpayers were.

White's audit showed that "when you dig into how this money is actually being spent, it's not actually helping people with HIV/AIDS. It's not helping to test folks for HIV. It's instead just being wasted."

He never mentioned that HIV disproportionately affects Black and Latino communities. He never mentioned that LGBTQ+ people face systemic discrimination in healthcare. He never mentioned that stigma drives the epidemic.

He just targeted the "Queer-ceanara."

"Illegal Aliens": The Medicaid Audit

In April 2026, White released another audit: $10.5 million in Medicaid benefits had gone to "illegal aliens" between 2023 and 2025.

"If this money had gone to benefit lawful citizens, it could have reduced our taxes, paid our teachers, paid our police officers—frankly, anything would be better than serving as a magnet for illegal immigrants to come to the United States," White told The Daily Signal.

"Mississippi taxpayers deserve to know the cost of illegal immigrants in our state, even if it makes some folks uncomfortable," he added. "My team will always tell you how your money is being spent, warts and all."

The language was telling. "Illegal aliens." "Magnet for illegal immigrants." The $10.5 million — spread across three years in a state with a $6 billion Medicaid budget — was treated as a scandal of Biblical proportions.

But the real scandal was the framing. Medicaid recipients aren't invading armies. They're sick people seeking medical care. Undocumented immigrants aren't a fiscal drain; they contribute billions in taxes, including to the programs they're often barred from accessing.

White didn't mention that. He just painted a picture of brown people stealing white people's medicine.

Redistricting: Targeting Mississippi's Only Black Congressional District

Then came the redistricting fight.

In April 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling rolling back protections against racial discrimination in redistricting. Within hours, White was on social media calling for Mississippi to redraw its congressional maps.

"Mississippi might no longer have a district drawn to protect Bennie Thompson," White wrote on X.

Bennie Thompson is Mississippi's only Democrat in Congress. He represents the 2nd Congressional District — the state's only majority-Black district. Thompson has served in Congress since 1993. He represents a district that was drawn specifically to give Black Mississippians representation under the Voting Rights Act.

White wanted to erase it.

"There is nothing stopping them from doing that," White said of Republican lawmakers. "The big question is, will they have the courage to do that?"

The "courage" to eliminate the only Black congressional seat in Mississippi. The "courage" to dilute Black voting power in a state that's 40 percent Black. The "courage" to roll back the Voting Rights Act in practice if not in name.

Republicans in Mississippi were split on the idea. Some warned it could backfire, creating "purple districts" that might flip Democratic. Others noted that in a state that's 40 percent Black, there are only so many ways to dilute Black voters without violating federal law.

White didn't care. He saw an opening to erase Black political power, and he took it.

The Harvard Conservative Behind the Mask

Shad White didn't stumble into this. He was built for it.

He earned a law degree from Harvard Law School in 2014, where he served as President of the Harvard chapter of the Federalist Society — the conservative legal association that has shaped the judiciary's rightward turn. He studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He was appointed State Auditor in 2018 by then-Gov. Phil Bryant.

He's the "first millennial to hold statewide office in the Deep South." He's handsome, articulate, Harvard-educated. He doesn't look like a Klansman. He doesn't talk like one either.

But his actions tell a different story.

  • He partnered his office with ICE to hunt immigrants.
  • He audited HIV/AIDS grants to attack LGBTQ+ programming.
  • He released reports targeting "illegal aliens" using Medicaid.
  • He called for erasing Mississippi's only majority-Black congressional district.

Every target is a minority group. Every action serves the same white supremacist agenda: protecting white political and economic dominance by attacking everyone else.

Governor ambitions: Building a Resume on Racism

Multiple sources now identify White as "a likely Republican candidate for governor." The timing isn't accidental.

The ICE partnership, the MOGE rebrand, the Medicaid audit, the redistricting fight — they're all building blocks for a gubernatorial campaign. White is positioning himself as the conservative firebrand who will do what Tate Reeves won't: openly and aggressively attack immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and Black political power.

He doesn't use slurs because he doesn't have to. He uses the authority of the state.

The auditor's office was created to ensure government spends money wisely. Under White, it's been repurposed as a weapon against anyone who isn't white, straight, and Christian. The power of the state — subpoena power, investigative authority, the ability to demand documents and testimony — is being used to harass, intimidate, and disenfranchise.

That's not fiscal oversight. That's white supremacy with a Harvard degree.

The Pattern Is No Accident

You don't accidentally audit HIV/AIDS grants to attack Latinx pride events. You don't accidentally sign a 287(g) agreement with ICE and then praise mass deportation operations. You don't accidentally call for erasing the only majority-Black congressional district in your state the moment the Supreme Court gives you cover.

These are choices. These are priorities. These are values.

Shad White has made his values clear. He believes immigrants are a burden. He believes LGBTQ+ people are wasting taxpayer money. He believes Black representation in Congress is something to be eliminated.

He believes in white power. He just dresses it up in spreadsheets and audits.

Mississippi is 40 percent Black. It has a long history of racial violence and political disenfranchisement. The Voting Rights Act was passed to prevent exactly what White is now attempting: the systematic erasure of Black political power.

White knows this history. He went to Harvard. He was President of the Federalist Society. He understands exactly what he's doing.

He just doesn't care.

What Comes Next

White hasn't announced his gubernatorial campaign yet. But he's already running. Every audit, every tweet, every demand for redistricting is a campaign ad targeted at the white conservative base that decides Republican primaries in Mississippi.

The message is simple: I will protect you from them. I will stop them from stealing your tax dollars. I will stop them from holding political power. I will stop them from existing in your state.

It's the same message segregationists sent in the 1960s, just dressed up in modern bureaucracy.

The question is whether Mississippi will fall for it again.

The state has made progress since the days of Freedom Summer and the murder of civil rights workers. It elected its first Black member of Congress since Reconstruction in the 1980s. It maintained a majority-Black congressional district for decades under the Voting Rights Act.

Shad White wants to roll all of that back.

He wants to be governor. And he's building his campaign on the backs of immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and Black Mississippians.

He doesn't use racial slurs. He doesn't have to. He has the power of the state.

And unless someone stops him, he's going to use it.
