Buckminster Fuller once said,
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
I’ve decided that this story is better off told from my heart than from trying to create a reaction, something that would be wanted if i needed to get something from you. But I don’t need anything from you. I’m here to offer a new direction we can take in our own lives and in society to bring about the free world we all know is possible. These ideas I’m about to present aren’t mine – I am simply consolidating useful tactics that ive gathered by standing on the shoulders of giants. Most people can agree of this current human predicament: Corrupt governments, War, Power Hungry Police, and Wealth Inequality run amok. For far too long this situation has divided and distracted the people from its true nature, and I think its safe to say we are all ready for a new story.
The way our entire system functions cannot be sustained.
Without increases in extraction and availability of natural resources like oil, natural gas, and even water, our economy can not continue to grow. From a global point of view, the dominance of industrialized civilization operating from this state of infinite growth has sparked the largest mass extinction of species since the dinosaurs. Every ecosystem on this planet is reliant on one another for its balance. As our society continues to operate by depleting every resource for its function, we are heavily disrupting that balance. Perpetually needing resources like Oil have also sparked nearly every foreign conflict since Vietnam . This information is not going to be properly addressed by those in power because they stand to benefit from continuous exploitation, regardless of the consequences. The dollar is their tool to retain their dominance of abundance, while millions of people are left competing with each other to pick up the scraps.
The more a society is divided into separate identifications and distracted away from its true nature, one living family, the more easily the society can be controlled for the benefit of those in power. When we understand our connectedness to everything outside of us, we know that the only way we can collectively transition past an unsustainable and illegitimate system is by looking at how we as individuals are attached to that system. Can we afford to value authority or pieces of paper more than the providence that comes from connecting with each other? The only way our system will continue to divide the people is if we continue to allow it to happen.
As humans are beginning to realize all over our planet, trying to save this situation that has been cultivated, through political reform, is not a solution. It should be obvious at this point that the Government and financial system are intimately linked. A true revolution – an evolution that propels humanity forward – is not going to come from the ballot box. The establishment would like you to believe such a thing is possible – that voting for a leader is going to turn everything around – but this in fact is impossible . The solution lies within individuals in society that have the courage to take ownership of their own hearts and their own minds. The solution ultimately, lies within you.
Lets Make The System Obsolete
Instead of trying to vote out the state or waiting for the system to collapse, we can start building now, taking action that renders the system obsolete by building strong community within each city.
Most people live in cities and are heavily reliant on money and the government to provide basic means of living. If we can find a way to lessen that dependence in the city, we can remove the barriers of poverty and separation – while at the same time removing our contribution to the infinite growth paradigm. Regardless if you believe the system is headed for collapse or not, If we start building ways of collaborating and connecting with each other now, we can create amazing pockets of community within our cities that will be able to band and work together for any situation. As we begin to create trading and sharing alliances with friends, family, and neighbors within our cities, we are building a network of autonomy that will be able to thrive without depending on the dollar or the state itself. Counter-Economics is the idea of competing with the state instead of trying to change it from within. It offers a beautiful amount of ways that humans can voluntarily exchange with each other, and in turn creating a more abundant community.
Anytime you freely give to another person you are participating in the counter economy.
Anytime you exchange outside the Federal Reserve System you are participating in the counter economy
Anytime you make art, learn a skill, or create music you are participating in the counter economy
Counter Economics is any peer to peer transaction that doesn’t involve the government or their financial system. Examples include:
- Gift Culture (see first video above)
- Alternative Currencies (Such As Bitcoin)
- Trading and Barter
- And All Exchange That Falls Under the Black or Gray Market (see this video)
All of these practices are ways to take money away from the Federal Reserve System and build true community.
How Can We Organize This Within Our City?
People have called them octologues , others have called them affinity groups , some have called them freedom cells . Whatever you choose to call them, the idea remains the same: A decentralized way of organizing with other free human beings to share knowledge, resources, and ideas. These intentional groups are the bridges we will use to build community within the city, and establish peer to peer exchange. It’s important to mention that as we are building these networks of freedom, within us we still have conditioned ways of operating under the old paradigm. The old paradigm is evident in all business and political arenas. The operation is set up as a pyramid structure, as power controlled from the top, with very few people calling the shots for the rest of the people within. As we are organizing with other humans, it’s imperative that we build a way of living and working together that does not replicate this model. We must recognize each individual as ourselves, a free human being. Through nonviolent communication, consensus decision making, and the agreeing to non-aggression, the network of groups can peacefully improve each member and create abundance within the community.
Each freedom cell (or affinity group ) can be started by reaching out to your friends or anybody you are close to. But why are we scared of people we’ve never met? Maybe this is can be your inspiration to embrace people you don’t know in your community. In my city, I organized my freedom cell by posting an event on Facebook for group meditation. By simply meditating in a park in my city, and putting the details online, I was able to collaborate with more and more human beings that are working towards building more connection in their lives. By meeting every week we were able to establish constant collaboration of ideas for growth both within our group, and in our community. We continued on to throw art shows, homeless drives, workshops, and much more, while mutually providing for each other.
But this is only the beginning of what can start to happen as this activity grows within each city. The more people you bring into your group, you can start to break off into separate groups to increase effectiveness of specific ways to unite the city away from reliance on the system.
- One group might be a reaching out group to connect neighborhoods through Gift Culture and other means of Counter Economics
- One group might be creating culture by creating space for artistic expression open to anyone in the city. House shows / Art Agoras (marketplaces for selling, gifting, trading and showcasing art) / organizing a group of friends with instruments to set up downtown and invite their friends regularly
- One group might connect with organizations and businesses in the area for implementing community gardens / organizing community cookouts and homeless drives / community meditations /
- One group might simply build each other up through holding space for authenticity and free expression
- One group could be a police accountability unit that responds to calls of police brutality by forming human chains around the victim(s) and videotaping every encounter.
- One might be focused on creating a ridesharing network to lessen dependence on fossil fuels
- One group could collaborate to make art and give it away to people on the street. This can include poetry / street theatre / jam sessions /
- One group focused on learning new skills and hosting workshops on sustainability / accessing creativity / DIY projects / homemade remedies
- One might be focused on indoor gardening / growing food forests at parks / Tackling food deserts
- One group might host documentary screenings to educate the public on various issues preventing a free society.
Unified Cities and Critical Mass
Ultimately, the amount ways we can use our networks to build up community within each city is limitless. The goal here is to help inspire a shift in awareness from fighting each other and our broken system, to recognizing the power of uniting with each other off the grid.
We are calling this The Unified City Project.
The more neighbors begin to peacefully work together to provide for one another, the success will be contagious.
Through experiencing how much better off each person is through this model, how much less constrained and divided everyone feels and how much freedom that creates, the movement will spread throughout the entire city — thus creating a connected, self-reliant, and peaceful network that can thrive and band together outside of the system. News of each successful city will spread to cities nearby and then across the country through social media and other platforms.
Our belief is that this shift in consciousness is already happening on a scale that is far beyond anything any one movement can claim responsibility for. We simply would like to aid this transition already taking place. By recognizing communities and factions within cities that are stepping into their role for mutual providence, we attempt to inspire the entire country. Through this, we are building the new world we all know is possible. Collectively, as we begin to take our power back into our own hands:
– The system of control will become obsolete –
