Protesters in Aurora, Colorado marched down I-225 demanding justice for Elijah McClain. Aurora police had been blocking traffic onto the interstate, however after approx 30 minuets into the march on I-225 Aurora police released traffic onto the interstate.

This resulted in a turquoise jeep driving into the back line of protesters. As the jeep drove through the crowd of protesters on the interstate, shots rang out. It is still unknown who all fired but it is currently believed that a protester fired shots at the tires of the jeep as it passed through the rear of the march, blowing out one of the tires, and striking one protester in the leg from ricochet. Another protester was grazed on the side of the head near the front of the march, eye witnesses report that these shots cam from the jeep. Both are in stable condition. We will update as more details emerge.

[Update] Demonstrator Samuel Young shot at the blue Jeep. He fired at the vehicle as it sped through the crowd blocking I-225. The bullets missed the vehicle but struck two fellow protesters, Young was subsequently charged & convicted.

Chaos Unfolds at Elijah McClain Protest

Todays protest began at the Aurora Police Department / court house at 5pm. After a few speeches the protesters began to march up Alameda Ave towards I-255. Upon reaching the interstate the group was able to shut down traffic in both directions within minuets.

They then began to march north on I-225, at which point the Aurora PD began to block traffic to and on the interstate ahead of the march. At about 6:30 Aurora PD released a single vehicle onto the interstate, it was then that a blue Jeep with 2 white male passengers license Plate BFS-G83 speed toward the protest.

A white SUV struck the Jeep in an attempt to protect the protesters giving them enough time to clear the way as the Jeep speed through the march. Protesters began to chase the Jeep and throw objects at it, that’s when shots were fired [believed at the time to originate from the jeep] striking at least two protesters. One protester was taken to the hospital with a non critical gunshot wound, another showed up later to a local emergency room having been grazed on the leg.

Another protester was injured after jumping over an interstate barrier wall. She was treated at the protest for minor injuries, any further details of her condition are unknown at this time

The Blue Jeep

The motorist of the SUV, who was on the interstate saw the jeep speeding towards the crowd and quickly reacted moving to block the jeep.

“I saw that that Jeep was attempting to harm people, so I tried to slow him down by pulling into his lane,” Sassi said. “He plowed right into me, rather deliberately I might add. … After he hit me, he kept driving and did a hit-and-run basically and ran.”

APD stopped the driver of the jeep, after it had cleared the protest and conducted “an interview.” His vehicle was searched and impounded pending investigation. Both the driver and passenger of the jeep were released. It is unclear if either of them were cited.

The driver claims he was scared and drove through the crowd after protesters surrounded his vehicle, striking it and yelling. He claims a white pickup struck the front of his vehicle. All footage and eye witness testimony says otherwise
